Anything to do with the ancients fascinates me.
While browsing our members websites this morning I came across some wonderful ungents on MandrakeApothecary. Even just the word 'ungent' conjures up visions of ancient civilisations and Egyptian kings and queens. On the Oils and Ungents page of Mandrake Apothecary there are 6 floral ungents listed; Jasmine, Neroli, Cacao, Lavender, Roses, and Patchouli. The descriptions are wonderful especially this one: 'Roses Perfume - This is a flirty and bright compounding of several rose absolutes (from the damascena and centifolia species), a few drops of rose otto, a sublime geranium bourbon, a whisper of ylang ylang, and a dab of organic bergamot essential oil. It is decidedly rosy, but never overly-sweet, and it has a bright tartness and lightness to it that the synthetic roses always fall short of. A bright pink sunshine of an unguent.' The humble lavender, I thought I had smelled them all.
I knew there were marked differences depending on the variety of lavender one is smelling. For example when exploring other lavenders I learned that both the Spanish Lavender Seville (Lavandula luisieri) and the Bulgarian Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) share similar nuances to each another but the Bulgarian Lavender has an interesting almond note on the dry out. Today I met three lavender angels, Lavender Blue, Lavender White and Lavender Violet from Samara Botane in the U.S.

Aren't these the most lovely perfume bottles you ever saw! Not only are they lovely but they are filled with gorgeous natural perfumes by Mandy Aftel! I am a big fan of her perfumes and her botanical perfumery materials. My favorite's are Tango, Shiso, Orchid and Cepes. Tango won the Best Avant-Garde Scent, by Beauty News and the Biggest Discovery of 2007, by Perfume Smelling Things. To buy these perfumes click HERE
