Smelling

Our olfactory system is a highly complex system that most people take for granted. The modern world is overloaded with strong chemical smells, the effects of which are more than just to mask unpleasant as well as pleasant natural odors.

Substances in synthetic perfumes such as Toulene and many synthetic musks cause permanent damage to the nerve endings of the human olfactory system. Almost all popular modern perfumes and household laundry detergents and air fresheners contain synthetic musks. Modern 'pop' perfumes are designed to get into the air and up peoples noses. It’s not an intimate thing, it’s something other people have to experience whether they like it or not. It is noticeable that people who use these synthetic perfumes to excess in their homes and on their bodies are less sensitive to natural smells in general and they will often apply and reapply a perfume, using far beyond what is a reasonable or safe amount.

A lot of people are suffering from the damage caused by long term exposure to synthetic perfumes. Laundry detergents are getting smellier and stronger than ever and are marketed as being “spring fresh” or “summer meadow fresh” , the perfumes are designed to be detectable after the clothes have completed the wash-dry cycle. The smells follow us everywhere, numbing our systems and making our sense of smell unavailable to the wonderful perfumes of nature.

Far better we are to limit our exposure to synthetic perfumes as much as possible. Avoid air fresheners that are not natural, keep your house clean and open the windows often. Get rid of carpets if you can or use bicarbonate of soda to lift away stale smells. Natural essential oils can be used in sprays or in burners to freshen up any room and will even give an added benefit of killing certain bacteria and viruses. Choose natural washing detergents that are not just “unscented”, instead look for ones that contain only natural perfumes. Remember that unscented household cleaners often contain chemicals that mask odors and these are harmful too.

organicGo for organics, that’s the best option. Look for an organic soil association symbol on products that you buy and if you can’t get organic go for all natural. When it comes to natural perfumery remember that some raw materials such as absolutes are obtained from the plants using solvents. The solvent most commonly used is hexane and even though they use a food grade hexane it can not be considered organic. After extraction the solvents are removed by washing in alcohol and only minute traces remain.
There are some flowers whose perfume cannot be extracted by the more natural method of steam distillation. Jasmine flowers are one example of this. It is also true that while steam distillation gives us the purest extract of the plant with all the aromatherapy benefits, the absolute obtained by solvent extraction gives us a smell described by many as being closer to the natural perfume of the living plant.
Rose otto and rose absolute are good examples of this. Rose otto is the purest extraction of the plant and is one of the most expensive oils to obtain. It takes many liters of rose petals to extract one drop of rose otto. Rose otto is a very therapeutic oil. Rose absolute on the other hand, which is extracted from the roses using a solvent is not only less expensive to produce but it is said to be more like the smell of fresh roses than is the rose otto. It is for these reasons that natural perfumers continue to use absolutes in their perfumes, without absolutes their palette of materials would be very limited indeed.

Natural perfumes are usually less diffusive than synthetics and therefore are only noticed by people in close proximity to the wearer. To someone who is used to smelling and wearing synthetics, natural perfumes can sometimes seem strange and very different. Remember that natural perfumes must be smelled on the warmth of the skin to be fully appreciated. It is also important to note that some natural essences can cause skin sensitization and natural perfumes are usually very expensive therefore it is advisable to purchase a sample to test before you commit to buying a full bottle.

There are other ways to keep the olfactory system in tip-top condition.

Orgasms are one sure fired way to keep your head clear and your all your systems in full working order. Orgasms are proven to boost the body’s immune system. Not only that but orgasms can do amazing things for blocked sinuses.

Here are a few different orgasm techniques you can practice to help you unblock your chakras, boost your health and clear your head.

TantraAccording to eastern tantric tradition the male is supposed to bring the female to no less than 9 levels of orgasm until she surrenders.

There is the shiva mudra orgasm which is practiced standing up while chanting “Hey, nah, nah, nah” (Sounds like it would clear out something)

There’s the “ooo-ahhh, ooo-ehhh, ooo-uhh” exercise, which apparently opens up your sexual energy centers. (If it doesn’t do that it would certainly get a few giggles)

There’s the pumping of the love muscles,
both lovers do this simultaneously while staring into each others eyes. It sends sexual fire up your spine and feels quite good, (or so they say Wink)

There’s what’s called the Mindful Orgasm
in which both partners stare into each others eyes at the moment of orgasm. It is best done in the standing position.

Then there’s the Kunadlini Orgasm, this is the one where the sexual energy rises up and clears out and fires up each energy center , from the base of the spine right up to the crown at the top of the head. (If this doesn’t clear out those blocked sinuses nothing will)

I also like the sound of the Clearing Orgasm
, this one is often unleashed in a scream or a cry and might frighten your partner. It help release blocked emotions and is a way of freeing your body, mind and spirit. (Expect to feel drained after this one)

Then there’s the big Cosmorgasm
where the orgasm extends out to the universe and the cosmos. This one can be practiced alone Wink

Last but not least theres the big TTO or Tantric Transformative Orgasm
, this one comes from cycling sexual energy around your body and lasts throughout the sexual experience. Needs lots of practice to get right.

After a few rounds of these orgasmic sessions your olfactory senses should be tingling and your immune system should be buzzing away happily and functioning at 100%.

Enjoy!
