More on Natural Perfumery

Our olfactory system is a highly complex system that most people take for granted. The modern world is overloaded with strong chemical smells, the effects of which are more than just to mask unpleasant as well as pleasant natural odors. Substances in synthetic perfumes such as Toulene and many synthetic musks cause permanent damage to the nerve endings of the human olfactory system. Almost all popular modern perfumes and household laundry detergents and air fresheners contain synthetic musks. Modern 'pop' perfumes are designed to get into the air and up peoples noses. It’s not an intimate thing, it’s something other people have to experience whether they like it or not. It is noticeable that people who use these synthetic perfumes to excess in their homes and on their bodies are less sensitive to natural smells in general and they will often apply and reapply a perfume, using far beyond what is a reasonable or safe amount.
