What makes a website good or bad. At Nature's Nexus we have worked very hard and continue to do so, to bring you a website that will be all you want it to be. We are always striving to make things better. We want Nexus to be a website that's interesting, interactive and always growing and changing. But what makes a bad website or what defines a good one?
Today lets' take a look at three key features that will help you spot a bad website when you see one. Bad backgrounds and Low Contrast and Websites that Rarely Change. The beauty of Nature's Nexus is that we can change the background of any of the pages in less than a minute. Not only that but when we change the background all the CSS changes to so that the font colour changes to suit the background for the best visibility. What that means is that if the background is dark the text will change to a light green or a white so people can still see it. We can choose any background we wish out of 100's. We liked the tulips because the background was mostly white and didn't distract the eye. I have seen so many websites who have made the mistake of having a high contrast background. Some of them are so unreadable that you can't even tell what the site is about. I'm not old and I don't need to wear glasses but if I get to a site where I have to work hard to read the words I just leave again instantly. So what can be done about it. Choose a background with low contrast, something very subtle is best. You can also fill in a table colour to contrast the text and, make it pop out that way. If your background is red then green writing would be hard on the eyes. If it's navy blue then black writing won't be visible. It should be easy to add new content to your website, and it should also mean that the old content is still available to people should they want or need to come back. To be able to keep up with internet crawlers and spiders your website needs fresh content at least a couple of times a week. It should get richer as time goes on. Every piece of content published on your website should have meta content generated otherwise it is useless. These days all websites should have a subscribe function so that readers can be notified whenever you update or change anything. The little orange box in the address bar means that you can do that with Nature's Nexus just by clicking on it.
