Dr Dílis Clare, interviewed by Ruth Ruane, at the Budding Cafe, Galway, Ireland.

The Budding CafeHi Dílis, thank you for taking time out to do this interview for our Nature's Nexus readers.  I know you for a few years now and think you are an amazing herbalist and that you are pure inspiration as a doctor and a business woman. I admire your common sense approach to life and health and I have to say that I find your light heartedness is positively contagious.

We might as well launch right into this as time is precious, we only have an hour.

Ruth:  In simple terms what did your life look like before you became a herbalist?

Dr. Clare: "Pretty much the same. I did my surgeries everyday. Went home, cooked  for the kids, they are grown up now. Looked after the garden. Being a herbalist just meant I had a different tool box to use at work. And one that’s more in keeping with my interests and patients stories, it’s much more related to people’s narrative about their own health. So that’s the difference, and I have time, instead of having 15 minutes for an appointment I have an hour with 30 minutes follow up. That’s time for the patient, for me to figure out what they need to do. I see myself as a sign post. A lot of General practice was very like that as well. But just more concentrated. A lot of it is still the same. It’s more fun."

Flowers Tea

I like my cup of tea and appreciate herbal teas but apart from that I know nothing about tea blending, so meeting with master tea blender Jörg Muller of Solaris Botanicals was an enlightening experience.

Jörg and his wife, Karin Wieland, founded Solaris Botanical herbal teas 3 years ago and the company is now at a crucial stage of expansion. Although Jörg would prefer to follow his tea blending passion all day, in reality his mornings are filled with office work, paperwork, answering emails, packing orders and answering the phone  Only in the afternoons, when he goes down to his new warehouse, does he get chance to indulge his creative side - blending favourite teas and formulating new blends. A challenging aspect to Jörg's work is bespoke custom blending, and it’s here that his talent shines. Custom blends are time consuming and it takes discerning talent to bring an individual’s taste preference to fruition.

"The face of the water, in time, became a wonderful book - a book that was a dead language to the uneducated passenger, but which told its mind to me without reserve, delivering its most cherished secrets as clearly as if it uttered them with a voice. And it was not a book to be read once and thrown aside, for it had a new story to tell every day." - Mark Twain a.k.a. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910)

Nature's Nexus is excited to offer an exceptional story on Earth's most abundant element: water. Creative artist and storyteller, Martin Waugh, shares with us his curiosity and passion for fluids in motion. By combining science and high speed photography, he reveals the character of liquid water drop by drop. Martin calls his droplets captured mid-splash Liquid Sculpture® images.

Fivel smilingI've followed Pauhla's work with animals for a number of years. We first made contact when I wanted to find out more about animal aromatherapy after I had worked for many years with their human counterparts. I found her blog of her time with TOLFA both educational, and at times, heartbreaking. When Pauhla agreed to be the Animal Health Director for Natures Nexus I was delighted, now I'm even happier to have this chance to get to know her better and to discover what life for an Animal Therapist is really like...

natures-giftIntroduction

An interview with Marge Clark by Nature's Nexus Co-Editor Liz Tams proved to be a real eye opener to me as a 'natural's' business owner. One thing it told me is that you have to be brave and persist to survive. The natural's business is a tough career to be in and it is necessary to keep your standards high if you are to succeed. A visit to Marge's website "Nature's Gift" told me that Marge has not only managed to keep her standards high, but that she has also managed to provide her customers with a fantastic choice. She sells everything from supplies for the aromatherapist and the serious natural perfumer to the home user and hobbyist. Her website showcases beautiful gifts and healing balms, synergy blends and natural perfumes as well as amazing aromatherapy jewelry that I am adding to my wish list. Having purchased some of Marge's essential oils I can vouch for her fast and professional service and the freshest quality citrus oils around.

I know you will enjoy the interview.

Ruth, Nature's Nexus Editor
