Lemon Balm Melissa officinalis is one of my all time favourite herbs. It is useful for so many things, but I can tell you about my own personal experience with lemon balm...

When a friend of mine was in her late teens and was going through a very rough time. We were at her house when she got a full blown panic attack. She was telling me to call an ambulance, she really thought that she was about to die. She said she could feel her heart beating so fast and she thought it was going to burst. She was very agitated. My friend had some lemon balm growing in her garden and I went and picked a bunch and made her some tea. It was wonderful. Within 10 or 15 minutes she was feeling normal. So you can see how Lemon Balm deserves a mention as a wonder herb.

avatar Lemon Balm is great! I finally have a good sized patch to make an attempt at
Eau de Me`lisse de Carmes (Caremlite water.)
The 17th century Carmelite nuns
produced their famous Carmelite Water by combining lemon balm with lemon zest,
angelica root, nutmeg and coriander.
The 'water' was sold for hundreds of
years under the name Eau de Me`lisse de Carmes and was used to treat various
nervous disorders. It still appears in German shops as Klosterfrau
Melissengeist.

avatar I just chose the Lemon balm purely on intuition, at the time I didn't know
a lot about herbs. I knew it wasn't toxic and that you could make a
tea with it, but that's about it. On the night my friend had the panic
attack I went out into the garden and something told me to make a tea
with it. Intuition is the highest form of intelligence!
